Billiard supplies, Tables, and Balls

Billiard suppliesBilliards is a game that has been around for hundreds of years in one form or another. The fact is that although this is an old game, it is also a game that is constantly evolving. Thanks to this, there have always been fresh new ideas about how this game should be played. These ideas have only increased the popularity of billiards.

By and large, the billiard supplies have not changed dramatically over the years. There are some differences. Billiard tables are now used. It is believed that early billiards was played on a lawn. Likewise, billiard balls have changed sizes. In fact, playing billiards in Europe today, you would probably see different-sized balls than in the United States.

Billiard cues have stayed pretty much the same throughout the years, although there have been some slight modifications done to these as well.

Although people sometimes hear bits of information about the history of billiards, it can sometimes be hard to tell what the real history is thanks to the fact that there have been so many changes over the years.
Billiards can be traced back to the time before King Louis XI in France. Obviously this was a time well before billiard lights, billiard covers and billiard furniture. It is difficult – if not impossible – to pinpoint the origin of billiards, but it is known that billiards comes from the French word “bille,” which means “ball.”

The French are known as avid pool players. Not only is it believed that billiards was invented in France, but it is also true that the French have been on the forefront of some of the updates made to the game over the years. Despite this, there is no conclusive evidence that the game was, indeed, invented in France –although it is widely believed.

A few years ago, a game board believed to be made around the fifteenth century was unearthed in France. The game board looked something similar to a billiard table. Prior to this time, it is known that lawn games were played in France that involved a long stick and balls. It is unknown exactly how or why the game changed from being an outdoor lawn sport into a game that was played indoors on a table.

As the game evolved and left France, it started to continue to increase in popularity. In fact it was so popular that both genders enjoyed playing it. This was viewed as a game that tested a person’s grasp of geometry as well as their gifts of reasoning.

Billiards has seen many changes over the years, but perhaps one of the most significant changes occurred in the 16th century when the leather cue tip was created. Not long after this, people saw changes in the way the tables on which billiards are played were manufactured. Instead of being made only from wood, some of these tables were instead made from ivory.

Billiards is a game that has stood the test of time. It has been able to do so thanks to the fact that it has evolved to adapt to the way that certain generations want to play the game.
